Throwback Thursday: Immortal Technique feat. Jean Grea and Pumkinhead – “The Illest”
Born in Peru but raised in Harlem, Immortal Technique has a unique but rougher edge to him. He got in trouble a lot in high school and then was put in prison while attending Penn State. After being let out, he took political science classes and got more educated. His knowledge comes through in his music as he speaks on controversial topics even though he is pretty opinionated. I saw him at Rock the Bells last year and thought he was alright. I hadn’t known him too well before but see now where he fits in the hip-hop genre and respect all that he’s done. Off his 2001 debut album Revolutionary Vol. 1, the song “Illest” has a great verse by Immortal Technique, but you have to hear what Jean Grea says. She absolutely kills it!
