Throwback Thursday: Afrika Bambaataa & the Soulsonic Force – “Planet Rock”

After a week in which we saw the NFL refs return, I’ve made a return to the site for my throwback segment. And I’m back with a real good one. Afrika Bambaataa is one of the originators of rap and hip-hop. As a DJ from the South Bronx, he was key in making some of the first beats that led to what we hear today. He also helped develop the Universal Zulu Nation, of which many great hip-hop artists are involved in. This 1982 track in particular contributed to other music styles like electronic and dance.
