Throwback Thursday: Special K – “Special K is Good”

Although I’ve never been big on Special K the cereal, Special K the rapper is someone worth listening to. After a successful career with the Treacherous Three, Special K released a solo 12″ in 1987 called “Special K is Good.” Hahaha you’re probably thinking that an artist who praises himself in his own song’s title doesn’t have a chance of being good, and yeah I thought that too, but after checking him out I found reason to believe otherwise. In the song, Special K makes a case for his mad rapping skills–he delivers colorful lines with a certain swag that makes you respect him. Though perhaps lesser known today, Special K locked up his spot as a prominent figure in hip-hop history in the 1970s, 80s, and early 90s.
